Little Hawk Wrestling...
Doug Davis, former Little Hawk great has been kind enough to go through some of his memories and give us a look back at the days when our very own legend Coach Clyde Bean held the reins at City High. |

This is a picture from the District Wrestling Tourney of 1968. Coach Bean is in the back row with Tex Taylor to his left and Pat Griffin 33#er to the right. Next row is Ty Dunlap, manager and Jim Halvorsen Hwt. (both Class of '69). Steve Jeffries 103# state qualifier, Bill Knight 112# Champ, Doug Davis 95# 3rd in ’68, 2nd in ’69 and AAU Champ at 114. 5# in‘ 69 and Doug Jones 127#. Rich Betterly 120# state qualifier and Larry Barnes 138# qualifier are on the floor. Bill Knight was 2nd in the state in ’66 at 95#, 3rd in the state at 103# before being state champ at 112# in ’68 |

Doug Davis defending the takedown shot by Steve Natvig of East Waterloo in the 1969 state finals at 95# . Davis entered the match 24-0 on the year and lost 1,1 – 1-0 overtime to the stalling Natvig. Davis redeemed himself by winning the state AAU championship finals defeating Dave Nichol of Cedar Falls 11-3 in the 114. 5# weight class . Nichol was a two time state champ at 95 # in 1968 and 103# in 1969 in the IHSAA state tournament along with being named a first team high school All-American. Natvig was 4th in the state AAU in the 105# weight class. |
